The Compliance Consultant is responsible for providing impeccable value-added compliance consulting services to multiple credit unions throughout Southeast Michigan. This position works with client credit unions to analyze their level of compliance and risk management, identify any gaps and offer support and solutions that will meet and exceed their expectations of staying and remaining compliant.  This position also identifies trends in compliance and develops solutions to meet those needs.

This position is a home-based position and requires significant travel throughout Southeast Michigan.

Through membership in the MCUL, Michigan credit unions receive important services such as legislative, regulatory and media advocacy; a stream of timely and vital news and information; access to key education and training programs; direct assistance with critical operational and planning issues; and a host of other products, services and programs designed exclusively to meet the unique individual and collective needs of credit unions.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop and maintain a strong, effective and professional working relationship with key credit union management and staff in assigned credit union's and maintain accurate contact records.
  • Meet with CEO, management and compliance officers to determine compliance needs and develop an appropriate plan and time frame based on contracted hours to meet those needs.
  • Review internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Update policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Assist CEO and management to perform risk assessments related to new and existing products and services and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to procedures, forms, etc. to improve compliance with applicable laws and regulations without giving legal advice.
  • Develop and deliver training presentations, to be used at client locations as well as at industry conferences.
  • Work with management, regulatory examiners and external auditors to ensure that compliance issues are adequately addressed where appropriate.
  • Receive ongoing education and training to keep up-to-date with law and regulation changes.
  • Represent CUSG at assigned conventions and other key conferences.

 

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Minimum of three years (five years preferred) of previous experience in regulatory and operational compliance in the financial industry required, credit union experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong computer skills with work experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and use of WebEx or other remote meeting software required.
  • Industry certification preferred (CUNA's Credit Union Compliance Expert or BSACS).
  • Previous experience implementing regulations preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, or completion of specialized courses of study related to financial institution compliance required.
  • Previous consulting or sales experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with little or no supervision.
  • Strong ability to adjust to change and work requirements quickly and frequently.

  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and group communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a remote team environment.
